Brett Allen was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. He received his Bachelors in Business Administration from Howard University, majoring in Marketing. While at Howard, he was elected by the student body to serve as Public Relations Coordinator of the Undergraduate Student Assembly. In addition to his service in student government, Brett co-founded Step Afrika, Inc., a cultural exchange program with members of his fraternity, Alpha Phi Alpha, Fraternity Inc.

After graduation, Brett set out to pursue his law degree from the Howard University School of Law (HUSL). While at HUSL, he worked in the criminal defense clinic where he litigated criminal cases on behalf of indigent members of the community. Brett was also selected to join the Huver H. Brown Trial Advocacy Team, where he competed against other law students from major universities around the country. During Brett’s third year at HUSL, he was elected by the student body to represent the law school, serving as coordinator of the Graduate Student Assembly. Brett was also an active member of Sigma Delta Tau, and Phi Alpha Delta legal fraternities.

Upon graduating from law school, Brett was appointed by Charles Hynes as an Assistant District Attorney in Brooklyn where he worked for five years. During his tenure, Brett handled all aspects of felony prosecution from indictment to trial, and prosecuted a myriad of cases ranging from vehicular crimes to attempted murder. After leaving the District Attorney’s office, Brett spent the next four years litigating criminal cases in private practice.
