Brandi Hawkins
Brandi Hawkins was born and raised in Dallas, TX. She received her Bachelors in English from the University of Texas at Austin. While at the University of Texas, she was an active member of the Phi Alpha Delta pre-law fraternity. As a member of Phi Alpha Delta, she volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, worked in a homeless shelter serving food, and tutored area elementary school students in reading.
Upon graduating from the University of Texas, Brandi went on to pursue her law degree at the University of Miami School of Law, where she received a Dean’s scholarship. After her first year of law school, she studied abroad in Spain studying international human rights law, international criminal law, and European Union law. During her second year of law school, Brandi served as a law clerk for the city of Miami’s taxi and limousine commission, where she prosecuted infractions of the taxi code in administrative hearings. She also worked as an intern in the State Attorney’s office, Juvenile Division, where she assisted with the prosecution of juveniles. Brandi also worked at a small criminal defense law firm assisting attorneys in both state and federal criminal matters. After completing her second year of law school, she spent the summer in New York City interning with Pfizer pharmaceuticals in their corporate litigation department. Brandi also volunteered with The Legal Aid Society in New York City Housing Court.
After graduating from law school, Brandi interned at the State Attorney’s office in Dallas, TX before relocating to Manhattan. In March of 2003, she accepted a position with the Legal Aid Society, Juvenile Rights Division, where she represented children in Family Court child abuse, neglect, custody, and visitation proceedings. Brandi also represented juvenile delinquents. While there she conducted numerous trials in assault, robbery, sexual assault, and narcotics cases.
